VfL Wolfsburg announced on Friday that Dutch defender Micky van de Ven has extended his current working papers with the club for another two years.

Amid outgoing transfer links, Micky van de Ven and his current Bundesliga club have made a strong statement about the 21-year-old’s future. The Dutch youth international had extended his current contract with Germany’s green company team, previously good through 2025, through 2027.

Crucially, Thomas Hiete of Germany’s Kicker Magazine reports that the contract does not contain an exit clause. The new administrative move is thus designing to keep the flexible defender in Germany’s northern “Autostadt” for several years to come.

“We are pleased that Micky has extended his contract with us and that we can plan with him in the long term,” VfL Managing Director Marcel Schäfer remarked in a statement accompanying the signing, “He’s a player with great potential. The fact that Micky has now signed for the long-term shows that he wishes to continue along this path with VfL Wolfsburg.”

“There are a lot of scouts looking at Micky,” head-coach Niko Kovac added, “He’s having a great season, but I think another year or two here would do him good.”

The player himself declared himself “pleased to commit to Wolfsburg beyond 2025.” Whether or not the VfL can actually hope to keep him that long remains to be seen. The FC Volendam Academy man has more than doubled his estimated market worth (up to €8 million) in the past year.

Van de Ven displaced Maxence Lacroix (valued at some €20 million) in central defense this year. Whilst appearing in all 22 of Wolfsburg’s league fixtures in the current campaign, he’s also proven to be adept at the left-back position in certain situations.
