Wembley compared to ‘Black Mirror’ after government alert during Man Utd vs Brighton

Manchester United and Brighton and Hove Albion fans have compared the sound of Emergency Alerts going off inside Wembley today to the Netflix sci-fi series Black Mirror.

At 3pm today all phones across the UK, unless the setting had been deliberately turned off by the user, sounded an alarm as part of a nationwide Emergency Alert test incase the government needed to reach out to the public via their phones.

Fan footage was captured across amongst the supporters during the alert, with one person stating it was ‘the most unsettling thing I’ve ever heard.’

Other fans used the event as an opportunity to poke fun at Tottenham Hotspur fans, who were seen leaving their fixture against Newcastle United early during the 6-1 loss. The video captured by fans can be seen below, as well as more reactions after it happened.

@TJFrancisLive: “At Wembley and everyone is confused as the government alert goes off.”

@lolatheshowgirl: “Made my Dad stay out of Wembley until after the alert as I was so scared of the noise.”

@1asif: “Everyone was shook.”

@MUFC_redarmy99: “That alert in Wembley is proper black mirror.”
