Manchester United striker Wout Weghorst appeared to show mixed emotions after the final whistle in the Red Devils’ 3-0 victory over Leicester City on Sunday.
The win keeps United’s title hopes alive and sees them move within three points of rivals Manchester City who occupy second spot.
Two goals from the in-form Marcus Rashford and a third from Jadon Sancho ensured a fourth game unbeaten for United who head into next weekend’s Carabao Cup final in great form.
However, a player who is yet to get off the mark in the league since he moved to Old Trafford in January is striker Wout Weghorst.
He is yet to score in the Premier League and, as per a clip on Reddit, looked gutted that he couldn’t get on the scoresheet again today.
Was Weghorst the right signing for United?
It was always going to be difficult to replace the greatest goalscorer of all time in Ronaldo, despite the Portugal legend’s poor form before his exit, but many United fans continue to root for Weghorst.
He continues to put in great amounts of effort and to seemingly be disappointed after a 3-0 victory because he didn’t score, whilst being delighted with the team’s win, can be seen as a major positive.
Ten Hag will be constantly looking for improvement and despite winning comfortably, United are by no means the finished product yet.
They have still looked vulnerable at times this season and Weghorst’s determination to score will be something his manager loves.
The 30-year-old gives the team an entirely different option and his impressive form at the World Cup earned him the move to Old Trafford.
He made four appearances for the Netherlands and starred in their game against eventual winners Argentina where his two late goals forced a penalty shootout.
Whilst he may not be the long-term solution, if he starts scoring then he can become a key player for the rest of United’s season.
