Villarreal vs Real Betis Preview
Villarreal and Real Betis clash in an important game in the race for European places this Sunday. These sides have been relatively evenly matched over the past few years and invariably end up competing for positions with a repeat likely again this season.
Heading into this matchday, Betis are one place and four points better off than Villarreal with both currently in Europa League positions. With Real Sociedad wobbling though, both sense an opportunity to kick on and clinch a top four finish and with it Champions League football. That would have a big impact on the finances of both sides and open up more options in terms of summer recruitment.
Villarreal were wobbling themselves but have enjoyed a better fortnight with back-to-back league wins over Getafe and Almeria. They also got a decent draw in Belgium from the 1st Leg of their Conference League tie against Anderlecht where Quique Setien opted to rest a number of key players ahead of this game.
Betis also left the likes of Sergio Canales and Borja Iglesias on the bench for their Europa League trip to Manchester United. It was a special night for the club at the theatre of dreams, but it wasn’t the result they were hoping for with the Red Devils cruising to a 4-1 win. It’s hard to see any real prospect of a Betis comeback now in that tie so they should go all in here in terms of team selection.
Manuel Pellegrini’s side have been in good form in LaLiga with 10 points collected from their last 4 league games, the most recent of which was a 0-0 draw against Real Madrid. However a season ending injury for Nabil Fekir will mean they have to end the campaign without their most dangerous player and they’ll be hoping for somebody like Ayoze Perez to continue to step up with the January addition making a bright start to his Betis career.

Score Prediction: Villarreal 2-1 Real Betis
There’s not much to choose between these teams but Villarreal may be slightly fresher with more of their players getting a rest in midweek. They are also nearing full strength with Gerard Moreno potentially fit enough to start here and home advantage may help them see off a Betis side that may show a bit of fatigue after a really difficult evening in Manchester.
