On the back of a dominant display by their top order, Mumbai Indians secured a comfortable victory over Kolkata Knight Riders, chasing down a target of 186 runs with ease in their last game. Just two days later, their middle order rose to the occasion and delivered an impressive performance, helping them post a challenging total of 192 runs on a slow and tricky pitch against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The victory marked Mumbai Indians’ third consecutive win in the tournament and propelled them two places up to the sixth position on the points table.
Mumbai Indians‘ victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad was largely attributable to the brilliant efforts of Cameron Green and Tilak Varma, who played pivotal roles in the team’s middle-order resurgence. The two batsmen combined to put on a scintillating partnership of 56 runs off just 28 deliveries, which helped Mumbai Indians amass a total of 192 runs on a challenging pitch. While Green remained not out on 64 off 40 balls, Varma played a 17-ball cameo, scoring 37 runs.
After missing the previous game due to illness, Jason Behrendroff made a triumphant return to the Mumbai Indians team, delivering two crucial wickets at the start of the Sunrisers Hyderabad innings. His first delivery was a short ball that drew a top edge from Harry Brook, and his next ball outside off took Rahul Tripathi’s outside edge and was caught by Ishan Kishan.
Sunrisers got a boost when Heinrich Klaasen hit leg-spinner Piyush Chawla for two mighty pulls and two reverse sweeps, scoring 4, 6, 6, and 4 in one over. However, Klaasen’s dismissal soon after, caught at long-on, meant that Sunrisers’ chase had lost its momentum, even though they had reduced the equation to 66 runs from 36 balls. From there on, it was a wicket fest for MI bowlers as they wrapped up the SRH innings for just 178 runs. Arjun Tendulkar picked up the final wicket of Bhuvneshwar Kumar to hand Mumbai the win. While Mumbai propelled to the 6th spot, SRH are now at the 9th spot in the points table.
