It was a mixed day for cricket fans. The first game between the Chennai Super Kings and the Lucknow Super Giants, which was expected to be a thriller, was washed away after the first innings due to rain. However, the second game compensated for it as Mumbai Indians chased down another 200+ target to defeat Punjab Kings on their own home ground. As the day came to a close, the Orange Cap didn’t see many changes happening.
Shikhar Dhawan back in top 10
Shikhar Dhawan, the captain of the Punjab Kings looked in fine touch today as he gave Punjab Kings an aggressive start upfront. Dhawan made 30 runs in just 20 balls to set Punjab’s innings up on a high note. He was looking very dangerous before he was completely bamboozled by Piyush Chawla who eventually got him stumped by Ishan Kishan.
However, it was enough for the PBKS skipper to make a comeback into the top 10 Orange Cap list. Dhawan was once leading the race but had to miss a few games because of illness. However, he is now back in his full touch and is giving Punjab some really good starts. He is currently placed on the 10th spot with 292 runs in just 7 games. However, it is worth noting that despite missing out on a few games, Dhawan still has the second-best average among all batters in the top 10 Orange Cap players list.
Mayers fails in a washed-away game
The first game of the day was washed away by rain. Since LSG came into this game without their regular captain, KL Rahul, a lot was riding on Mayers’ shoulders as he was trusted by the team management to give LSG a good start. However, the Lucknow pitch played tricks again as Mayers fell prey to Moeen Ali, scoring just 14 runs in 17 balls.
Despite failing, Mayers has moved up by one spot and has overtaken David Warner to get placed on the 7th spot in the Orange Cap list. Mayers has 311 runs in 10 games at an average of 31.10. On the other hand, Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad didn’t get a chance to play. But they have been able to save their spots nonetheless.
