UP-W vs DC-W: “We Will Reflect On What Went Wrong”

UP Warriorz took on Delhi Capitals Women in what was the final league stage match of WPL 2023. While both teams had already qualified for the playoffs, a win for DC meant that they would top the table and directly qualify for the finals, which they did, defeating UP by 5 wickets.

Despite Tahlia McGrath’s quickfire 58-off-32, and captain Healy’s 36, UP could not put up a big score on a gripping track, managing to get to 138 in 20 overs.

While the run chase wasn’t particularly easy for DC, they never looked like losing the game. They chased down the target in 18 overs. Capitals’ highest scorer was captain Meg Lanning, who with her 39 runs took the Purple Cap from McGrath. DC’s Alice Capsey was announced Player of the Match for her 3/26 and 34 runs.

Speaking during the post-match presentation, Warriorz’s captain Alyssa Healy spoke of her team’s loss, and how they will have to dust it off before their next match.

“We also were giving an opportunity to players to rest. Credit to Ismail. She got a couple of wickets. Gave us a sniff. I couldn’t hit it off the square. We were looking for a total to bowl at. The wicket was turning and gripping. We would have loved to bat at a faster clip. Hopefully, we will reflect on what went wrong. We will reflect quickly as well. I am excited to be a part of the finals. DY Patil will be chock-a-block.” said Alyssa Healy.

UP Warriorz will take on MI-W in the eliminator next

UP Warriorz, having finished third in the points table, will now take on the second-placed team Mumbai Indians Women at Dr. DY Patil Stadium on March 24.

These two teams will face off in the eliminator match to determine the second finalist of WPL 2023. DC already booked their place in the big match by finishing first on the points table.

Both teams have won one match against each other in the two times they have played against one another. UP were the first team to defeat MI in WPL.

The winner of the eliminator will face DC on March 26 in Brabourne Stadium.
