“Took Me A Few Games To Get Going, But A Disappointing Loss”- Mitchell Marsh After Winning PoTM

Last Update on: April 30th, 2023 at 12:11 am

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) outplayed Delhi Capitals (DC). SRH won the match by 9 runs and defended the target of 198 runs with ease. Mitchell Marsh‘s swashbuckling knock of 63 runs in 39 balls wasn’t enough for DC to win the match. Mitchell Marsh smashed 6 huge sixes and 1 four and was seen in beast mode.

Mitchell Marsh perhaps played a shot too many in the 14th over against Akeal Hossain as on the 2nd delivery the left-arm off-spinner tossed up the delivery and he mistimed the shot and was dismissed. The likes of Manish Pandey, Priyam Garg & Sarfaraz Khan looked clueless against both pace & spin.

Mayank Markande was the pick of the bowlers who took 2 wickets and gave away 20 runs in 4 over spell. Aiden Markram marshaled the troops smartly as his decision to not give Umran Malik the 2nd over worked well as he had conceded 22 runs in the 1st over. The part-time spinner Abhishek Sharma did a pretty good job by playing the role of 6th bowler as he took 1 wicket and gave away 26 runs in his 3 overs.

SRH had a topsy-turvy performance with the bat but somehow they scored a terrific knock 197-6. SRH were reduced to 83-4 in 9.4 overs but the likes of Abhishek Sharma & Heinrich Klaasen smashed half-centuries and were seen taking calculative risks. Mitchell Marsh took a 4-wicket haul but the rest of the bowlers weren’t able to dictate the terms.

DC’s management needs to have some serious talks with the middle-order batters as the team made a mess of the target. DC required 88 runs to win in the last 9 overs with 9 wickets. DC now are placed in 10th position with 4 points and an NRR of -0.89  whereas SRH are in 8th position with 6 points and an NRR of -0.57.

It was all about getting the boundaries, applying the pressure- Mitchell Marsh

During the post-match presentation, Mitchell Marsh stated that it was tough to get going at the start of the season. Mitchell Marsh pointed out that he had a nice partnership with Phillip Salt and also said that the wicket slowed down a bit.

Mitchell Marsh emphasized the fact that they need to smash boundaries and said that there were a lot of positives from this match as well for DC. Mitchell Marsh was quite optimistic that they can still make it to the playoffs.

“Took me a few games to get going, but a disappointing loss. Had that nice partnership with Salt but not enough to get over the line. The wicket did slow down a bit, but I think it was a case of us chasing 20 too many either way. And they were really good,” said Mitchell Marsh

“It was all about getting the boundaries, applying the pressure. Certainly lots of positives from today, we’ve lost a few close ones. We’ve been on the wrong end of a few but we do feel there is a long way to go in this tournament. Time to start winning a few,” he added.
