Tata, the title sponsor of the men’s Indian Premiere League, has also managed to become the title sponsor for the inaugural edition of the Women’s.Premiere League
As per a report by Cricbuzz, the Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Tata group signed a deal on Tuesday, 21st Feb, giving title rights to the Indian giant for the next five years. It is expected that a joint statement will be released by the two parties in a couple of days, stating the exact value and details of the signed deal.
Tata bagged the sponsorship of IPL earlier in 2022 after the Chinese smartphone manufacturer Vivo decided to pull out of the agreement with BCCI. WPL, which is expected to alleviate the state of women’s cricket not just in the country, but all across the globe, has earned BCCI a huge revenue even before its initiation. BCCI managed to auction off the 5 teams participating in the first season of the WPL to Adani Group, Reliance, RCB (Diageo), Delhi Capital, and Capri Global for a total sum of 4670 crores. The Broadcasting rights of the WPL were already surrendered by the BCCI to the Viacom 18 Group in January for a whopping sum of $116 million (approximately Rs. 960 Crores).
The league, set to begin on 4th March, will have a total of 22 games in the first 3 seasons. Even though the deal almost seems final, there is yet to be an official statement made by BCCI or the Tata group.
According to a BCCI release, the tender paperwork for the title rights was on sale until February 9 and it stated, “The detailed terms and conditions governing the tender process including eligibility requirements, the process for submissions of bids, rights, and obligations of the title sponsor, etc. are contained in the ‘Request for Proposal’ (“RFP”) which will be made available on receipt of payment of a non-refundable fee of INR 1,00,000 (Indian Rupees One Lakh Only) plus any applicable Goods and Services Tax. The procedure to procure the RFP documents is enlisted in Annexure A to this notice. The RFP will be available for purchase till February 9, 2023.”
