The Italian rematch will have to wait.
Jannik Sinner pulled out of Barcelona due to illness prior to today’s scheduled quarterfinal rematch vs. buddy Lorenzo Sonego.
Medvedev on Zverev: We Were Never Close Friends
“Sad to have to withdraw from my match today in Barcelona. I’ve been feeling unwell for a few days now,” Sinner posted on social media. “Today the sickness got worse and I’m not able to play. I’ll take some time to rest and recover.
“Thanks for all your support & good luck to Lorenzo for the rest of the event.”

No. 4-seeded Sinner has reached the quarterfinals or better in seven of eight tournaments this season. Sinner owns a 26-6 record, which is second to Daniil Medvedev for most ATP wins in 2023.
The ninth-seeded Musetti takes the walkover into Saturday’s semifinals against two-time Monte-Carlo champion Stefanos Tsitsipas.
The second-seeded Tsitsipas did not drop serve sweeping Aussie Alex de Minaur 6-4, 6-2.
Yesterday, de Minaur walked into the quarterfinals when Grigor Dimitrov withdrew due to illness.
