Sevilla vs Almeria Preview
There’s an Andalusian derby this weekend at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan but this is about far more than local pride with both Sevilla and Almeria involved in the relegation scrap. Sevilla thought they were starting to pull clear of trouble but remain very much in danger heading into this.
They’ve let in 9 goals in their last 2 league outings with a 3-2 loss at home to Osasuna followed by a 6-1 defeat at Atletico Madrid. Defensively they really have been poor at times and they aren’t aided here by 3 suspensions while Marcao remains sidelined through injury. They may at least be able to count on the services of Loic Bade which should bolster a highly unconvincing three-man central defence.
Despite their league troubles, Sevilla are actually in a strong position to reach the Quarter-Finals of the Europa League after beating Fenerbahce 2-0 at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan on Thursday night. Goals from Joan Jordan and Erik Lamela sealed the win but they have to prioritise this game over next week’s return meeting in Turkey given their current league plight.
In theory this represents a good chance for Sevilla to claim a very important three points. Almeria are notoriously poor travellers who haven’t won a single away game this term on their return to LaLiga. Indeed they only have 3 points on the road, by far the worst record in the division and their most recent away game ended in a 6-2 defeat to Girona.
They are a different beast at home though and have beaten leaders Barcelona since that game. There is clearly some quality in this Almeria side, particularly in the final third but their defence is rarely up to the task. Indeed this match features two of the worst three defences in the division with only bottom club Elche having conceded more goals this term than Sevilla and Almeria.

Score Prediction: Sevilla 3-2 Almeria
With both sides so bad defensively, we should probably expect a few goals in this one and it should be a decent watch from a neutral perspective. Sevilla’s home form has been mostly good since the start of 2023 and with Almeria struggling for any kind of result away, it’s hard to look past a victory for Jorge Sampaoli’s side, despite their capitulation in Madrid last weekend.
