Serie A: Wild scenes in Napoli as fans celebrate the team’s first Serie A title in 33 years

Delighted Napoli fans celebrated in style on Thursday, after their club won their first Serie A title since the Diego Maradona era, sealing the trophy with a 1-1 draw at Udinese.

Securing the “scudetto” (championship) set off wild scenes of celebration throughout Naples, inside the stadium in Udine and beyond.

Maradona led Napoli to their only previous Italian league titles in 1987 and 1990.

The game did not go to plan for Luciano Spalletti’s side as Udinese took an unexpected lead early on through Sandi Lovric.

However, Napoli’s leading scorer Victor Osimhen came to the rescue in the 52nd minute with the equaliser.

The point gives Napoli an insurmountable 16 point lead over second-place Lazio with five matches still to play.
