Lazio had promised a swift reaction to the unfortunate footage seen on social media after last Sunday’s Lazio-Roma derby, and they have delivered. The Biancoceleste has announced in an official statement released on Wednesday the decision taken: the three identified men will no longer be allowed access to the Stadio Olimpico and the club will appear as a civil party to claim damages in any criminal proceedings to follow.
Here is the statement:
“During Sunday’s Lazio-Roma match and in the days immediately after, three individuals were identified who became protagonists of behavior that has nothing to do with fan support and which manifests forms of discrimination and anti-Semitism.
“Thanks to the collaboration between Lazio Sports Club, its own security service, the stewards and the forces of law and order, also through the use of the surveillance cameras at the Stadio Olimpico, a person wearing a T-shirt with the number 88 with the inscription “HITLERSON” and two others who were ostentatiously making the Roman salute gesture were quickly identified.
“With regard to them, once the administrative procedure of the security forces has been completed and the authorization of the Public Prosecutor’s Office has been obtained for the Chief of Police to provide the personal data of the three subjects, Lazio will strictly apply the Code of Ethics and will order the non-appreciation, therefore the expulsion from the stadium for life and will appear as a civil party for the claim for damages in the criminal proceedings to be followed.”
