Next May it will be two years since Zinedine Zidane last coached a football team, a long enough time for anyone to miss out on the most important coaching jobs.
However, the former Real Madrid coach is not just anyone. He can wait for the right moment and wait for the best vacancy.
According to French media outlet RMC Sports, that moment has already arrived, and the team Zinedine Zidane is thinking of is none other than Juventus, a club the Frenchman knows perfectly from his time as a player between 1996 and 2001.
In fact, he had already been a few steps away from leading the Bianconeri when he finished his first spell in charge of Los Blancos in 2018. However, in less than a year he would return to the Real Madrid bench instead.
Now, according to RMC, even with Juventus’ Champions League hopes in the balance, it would not be a key factor in his decision as he is thinking more about a long-term project that would not require the dispute of any extra competition, beyond the domestic ones.
Inconveniences
The main stumbling block on Zidane’s possible path to Juventus would be, without going any further, the current tenant: Max Allegri. His contract with Juventus runs until 2025, and he earns 7 million euros net per year. If he were to replace him with another coach, they would have to pay him 20 million. And given the state of the Bianconeri accounts, the issue is far from trivial.
Added to this is the fact that the Juventus top brass have not considered sacking Max Allegri even when they were ninth in the table this season, before being stripped of 15 points. Now, with results going their way and having qualified for the semi-finals of the Europa League, the thought of a change of coach could almost be considered a folly.
There are also other players in the equation in the form of interested clubs and entities. It should not be forgotten that PSG have already tempted him in the past to take charge of their team after the departure of Mauricio Pochettino. But in the end the deal fell through.
With Christophe Galtier in the hot seat, it could be an ideal place for the French legend, but according to information from RMC, Zidane would not agree with the Qatari’s way of managing the Parisian club.
