Brahim Diaz is catching the eye in Italy in 2023. His latest masterful display was in a 4-0 demolition of runaway Serie A leaders Napoli, with an assist and a goal.
Milan are hoping they can keep him beyond the summer. The 23-year-old has two more years on his contract with Real Madrid (until 2025), but the legendary Paolo Maldini, technical director at Milan, is hoping to buy the player for a little less than the 22 million euros agreed at the time with Los Blancos.
And there will be the dilemma: negotiate a slightly lower price and stay in Milan, where he is wanted and settled; or return to Los Blancos, where a starting place is not guaranteed – but the option to fight for it is, especially if Marco Asensio does not stay. After all, Madrid is the place where Brahim wants to succeed one day.
For now, the youngster is showing much improved numbers. His five goals and three assists in 24 Serie A games are better than the four goals and three assists in 20-21 or the three goals and three assists of 21-22. His contribution, moreover, has been reaffirmed in the Champions League, where he scored in the round of 16 against Tottenham, even if it is his only European goal this season.
His improvement is evident: Fabio Capello himself, during the last MARCA Sport Weekend in Malaga, analysed the Milan player: “Brahim has improved a lot. I don’t know if he will play for Real Madrid one day, but I admit that I didn’t like him before, and now he does interesting things. He has improved a lot.”
His desire to, one day, succeed in Spain is associated with his longing for the Spanish national team. These have been hard days for the Diaz family. Everyone around him had hoped that Luis de la Fuente, who knows him well from the youth ranks, would remember him in the coach’s first squad. But he didn’t. He ignored him, which hurt the winger.
The player from Malaga, who has Moroccan roots because of his grandmother, has been called by Walid Regragui, coach of the African side, on many occasions. Morocco promises him to be the star of the country, the No. 10 of the national team. But Brahim is patient and is holding out for Luis de la Fuente‘s call.
If not in June… many already see him accepting the call of his second country, Morocco. Until then, he does not want to make a decision. Or rather, he wants to wait for La Roja.
Anyway, on Sunday, Brahim left the pitch with an adductor injury, but everyone expects him next week in the Champions League match… against Napoli.
