Sergio Aguero criticised after Man City’s Champions League win

Fans think that Sergio Aguero is the new John Terry after the Manchester City legend was enjoying the club’s first ever Champions League victory.

It may be 11 years since Terry was suspended from the final as Chelsea were crowned champions of Europe for the first time, before stepping up in full kit to lift the trophy, but it’s still one of the most referenced moments around.

After the full time whistle Des Kelly mentioned Terry, worrying that the armband he had to wear to be on the pitch to interview players made him look like the former Blues’ captain.

Then after all that it was time for Aguero to pop up and get interviewed live on BT Sport, with Rio Ferdinand not too happy to see the former striker.

The Argentine celebrated with Rodri, said he was happy after ‘we’ lost our last final and joked that he was heading to Miami to join his friend Lionel Messi.

The 35-year-old, who was forced to retire in December 2021 after being advised by doctors to do so, was criticised last year after the World Cup final.

With his interview on the pitch again fans were comparing him to Terry after Ferdinand said: “Mascot for Argentina, now mascot for Manchester City, wonderful scenes.”

“The new John Terry,” stated one fan.

“Brother always thinks he’s on the team. Your career is over mate let it go,” exclaimed a second.

A third questioned: “Why does he always turn up like he did something?”

Another fan brought up the former England centre back, adding: “Does Aguero really have to go full John Terry at every final he isn’t involved in?”

“Sergio Aguero becomes the first player to win the UCL and world cup from the stands,” commented a fifth.

Aguero was in the squad in the 2021 Champions League final when City were beaten by Chelsea, but started on the bench.

That decision was part of the idea that Guardiola had ‘over thought’ his tactics, playing without a striker or a defensive midfielder in the starting XI.

Rodri was also on the bench and he got revenge on history by scoring the winner, Aguero doesn’t have that privilege however.
