Borussia Dortmund had been 2-0 up in opposition to Actual Madrid on the Santiago Bernabeu within the fifty fifth minute when head coach Nuri Sahin determined to take off Jamie Gittens for Waldemar Anton and change from 4 to 5 on the again.

5 minutes later, Actual Madrid pulled a aim again, and the reigning Champions League winners went on to finish a shocking comeback to thrash Dortmund 5-2.

Sahin’s choice to alter formation was the topic of post-match criticism from Prime Video pundit Christoph Kramer, amongst others.

“The important thing in video games in opposition to large opponents with a 2-0 lead is to not sit again an excessive amount of. The bottom line is possession. That is the way you beat a prime crew. The important thing in video games like that is all the time what you do with the ball. That wasn’t good after the change of formation,” Kramer stated.

Explaining his choice, Sahin stated:

“In fact it did not work. However I do not suppose it was due to the change of system or the modifications we made, however as a result of we lacked management.

“We knew Madrid would press. However we allowed ourselves to be pushed again an excessive amount of in opposition to the ball. If you happen to lose in the long run, the change wasn’t proper. You possibly can say that afterwards. Nevertheless it was clear that we wished to cut back the gaps. Was it a matter of braveness? I would not say that.”
