Real Sociedad vs Cadiz Preview
The Friday night game in LaLiga this week comes from Donostia where Real Sociedad are favourites to see off Cadiz. They haven’t been in the best of form of late though and could do with a win with 5th placed Real Betis closing in on the Champions League places.
It’s just 1 win in 5 games for La Real and they suffered a big setback last time out, losing 1-0 away to a hopelessly out of form Valencia. Curiously their dip has come just at the time when they are starting to get players back to fitness. Igor Zubeldia’s own goal cost them at Mestalla, a tough pill to swallow given they were only denied victory in their most recent home game by a 93rd minute own goal by Zubeldia’s central defensive partner Robin Le Normand.
They didn’t really deserve to win either match in truth though and Imanol will want something of a reaction here. With David Silva available again, Real Sociedad’s injury list is as short as it has been all season and with a decent rest ahead of next week’s Europa League tie with Roma, we can expect a full strength home eleven here and they’ll be expected to force the running against this Cadiz side.
The visitors have improved in recent weeks though with some excellent home results bolstering their survival chances. They’ve managed to defeat Mallorca, Girona and most recently Rayo Vallecano in front of their own fans, keeping a clean sheet on every occasion. Sergio’s side would climb to the lofty heights of 12th were they to spring a surprise here and claim all the points.
They are currently living proof of just what a difference a strong transfer window can make in January. The match winning goal against Rayo again came via a new signing with Sergi Guardiola chipping in with another important strike. On current evidence, low-scoring Real Valladolid may have made a huge error by loaning out the striker to one of their direct relegation rivals.

Cadiz have shown enough to suggest they can be competitive here, even in their recent 2-0 defeat at Camp Nou where they enjoyed a spell of dominance in the Second Half. However they are unlikely to throw too much caution to the wind here and it feels like the hosts should have enough quality to find a winning goal at some point in this match.
