Real Madrid will terminate Eden Hazard’s contract if former Chelsea man refuses to leave

Real Madrid will consider the option of terminating Eden Hazard’s contract at the club if they cannot agree a transfer to remove him from the squad for next season.

Hazard, 32, made the switch from Chelsea to the Bernabeu Stadium back in 2019 for around £100 million but has failed to impress since arriving in Spain, with just four La Liga goals to his name across his time at Los Blancos.

The Belgian international has been severely hindered through injuries with a total of 18 accumulating since his arrival, resulting in over 70 games being missed through setbacks alone. Alongside this, Hazard’s attitude has also been questioned with the player often looking out of shape at times.

The transfer has been far from a success for Madrid and with just one year left on the original contract he signed at the club, Florentino Perez is now looking to move the player on in the summer transfer window in order to get some form of return back on his initial investment.

According to Spanish outlet Relevo, it is their ‘intention’ to not have the winger as part of their squad heading into the new season, as they look to find a suitable landing spot for the man who once set the Premier League alight on a regular basis.

However, with his salary currently the highest on their wage-bill at €15million per year, finding a team willing to pay this price for the lack of end product may be difficult for the hierarchy at the club.

Eden Hazard in action for Real Madrid

The report goes on to state that in the event they are unable to secure a transfer for Hazard, Madrid will consider terminating his contract to ensure he is no longer amongst the squad, as Carlo Ancelotti begins to plan for the 2023/24 campaign.

Hazard has previously been linked with a return to the Premier League with shock moves such as Aston Villa and Newcastle United both touted as possible landing destinations,.
