Real Betis vs Real Valladolid Preview
Real Betis and Real Valladolid clash at the Benito Villamarin this matchday. The hosts are hoping to build on an excellent win last time out while Real Valladolid have been in good form and travel with belief that they can get a result.
It hasn’t been the best of times for Betis in recent months but they’ll be hoping that last week’s 3-2 win at Andalusian rivals Almeria can prove something of a launchpad for the next few months as they target European qualification via the league whilst also targeting a deep Europa League run.
From a neutral perspective they certainly remain a good watch with 12 goals in their last 2 league outings after the 4-3 loss to Celta in their most recent home game. That match saw Luiz Felipe pick up his 3rd red card of the season to take Betis’ tally to 10 reds, 3 more than any other club. That ill discipline has clearly cost them points but what’s curious is that they haven’t been a particularly dirty side with only 3 teams having collected fewer yellow cards than Manuel Pellegrini’s team.
One of those Betis reds did come in the reverse fixture against Real Valladolid, a 0-0 draw at the Jose Zorrilla back in October. Pacheta’s team has a slightly different feel to it now though following a busy January transfer window. They’ve certainly been better defensively in recent weeks with three straight clean sheets in LaLiga heading into this match.
They won two of those three games thanks to late goals from new signing Cyle Larin and their recent road win at Real Sociedad has to give them confidence heading into a tough trip like this. They probably should have made it 3 wins on the spin last time out against Osasuna but had to settle for a 0-0 draw, although their current plight is looking a lot rosier than it did in mid January when Real Valladolid were plummeting fast into deep relegation trouble.

Possible XI: Masip – Olaza, Javi Sanchez, Hongla, Luis Perez – Kike Perez, Monchu – Machis, Plano, Plata – Sergio Leon (4-2-3-1)

Score Prediction: Real Betis 2-1 Real Valladolid
Betis are missing main striker Borja Iglesias to injury here which is a blow, although he hasn’t been at his best since the World Cup break in truth. They do have Willian Jose and Ayoze Perez who can fill that position while Nabil Fekir returns this weekend so they should still have enough quality on the pitch to edge this game.
