Real Betis vs Cadiz Preview
There’s an Andalusian derby this Sunday in LaLiga as Real Betis and Cadiz face off at the Benito Villamarin. Both sides need the points but for very different reasons with the hosts targeting the top four while Cadiz are battling against the drop.
Betis have developed a reputation as one of the more exciting teams to watch in LaLiga but their recent games have been a good deal tighter. The long-term absence of Nabil Fekir has perhaps forced Manuel Pellegrini into a slightly more conservative approach in some areas of the pitch and all of Betis’ last three games in all competitions have ended with 1-0 scorelines.
They beat Mallorca here in their last home league outing and were somewhat unfortunate to be on the wrong end of a 1-0 last weekend at the Civitas Metropolitano. Pellegrini would still have taken plenty of positives from the performance, although the finishing did leave a little to be desired at times. He’ll expect his team to bounce back here and Betis are boosted by the availability of Sergio Canales whose four game suspension has been put on hold for now.
Cadiz are also benefiting from a similar appeals process with Iza Carcelen in line to start at right-back while his suspension is looked at again. There is no such luck for Conan Ledesma though with the Cadiz keeper serving the third match of his four game ban meaning David Gil will again deputise in goal. He was beaten twice in a damaging 2-0 defeat at home to relegation rivals Sevilla last time out.
The fear for Cadiz may be that they will end up looking back on the dramatic and bad-tempered closing stages of their recent home game against Getafe as the turning point in their season. Seemingly on course for a huge victory over a direct rival, they conceded a 106th minute equaliser from the penalty spot while red cards were dished out to key players and emotionally as much as anything, it would have been hard for Cadiz to pick themselves up again after that.

Score Prediction: Real Betis 2-0 Cadiz
Cadiz are missing a number of players here due to suspension or injury and it’s going to be a really tough ask for them to get a result. While their recent form has been a bit mixed, Betis should have enough quality to prevail on home soil, particularly with Canales available to add a bit more invention in the final third.
