PSG injuries & suspensions ahead of Monaco clash

Paris Saint-Germain will attempt to bounce back from their Coupe de France exit at the hands of Marseille as they take on Monaco in Ligue 1 action. They will be doing so without one of their most important players, though.

The Parisian team are at the top of the table, as you’d expect, but will have their work cut out to get all three points on the south coast against a Monaco side that are firmly in the hunt for a Champions League qualification spot.

With the Champions League round of 16 tie against Bayern Munich on the horizon, Christophe Galtier will need to be careful with his selections and will hope that no one picks up any sort of injury.

Keeping the focus on Monaco, though, what injuries and suspensions are PSG contending with for the match on February 11?

Thankfully for Galtier, PSG do not have any suspended players for this clash against Monaco meaning he can focus on the fit players in the squad to secure what would be an important three points.

The other teams in the league will be eagerly looking at PSG’s games either side of their Champions League matches as times when they might drop points and open the door for a title challenger. Marseille and Lens are eight points away, while Monaco could move within seven points of PSG with a win here.

Galtier has already said he would like to see more of a mental effort from his players compared to the 2-1 defeat against Marseille. “We lost the battle in midfield. We failed in mental engagement. We will face a series of intense teams that impose duels. We must be present. At the moment, we are not finding that aggressiveness. The players need to make a big effort in the mental aspect to win more duels in the midfield,” Galtier said.

The major issue for PSG from an injury perspective is that Kylian Mbappe is out and will be for at least a couple of weeks, while Lionel Messi is also absent and may not feature against Bayern Munich in the Champions League next week. Neymar and Sergio Ramos returned from groin injuries for the game against Marseille so they should feature against Monaco.

Nordi Mukiele and Renato Sanches will both be out of the match through injury as has been the case for much of the season, while Presnel Kimpembe is in contention to make his return after coming back into training.

PSG have got a seriously tough set of fixtures coming up as the Monaco game is followed by the first leg against Bayern Munich, Ligue 1 fixtures against Lille, Marseille and Nantes, before the second leg against Bayern Munich.
