Liverpool could potentially sign Jude Bellingham in 2024 even if the midfielder signs a new deal at Borussia Dortmund, it has been claimed.
The Reds have endured a terrible season. Jurgen Klopp’s side currently languish in seventh in the Premier League table, some nine points adrift of the top four, albeit with two games in hand.
Meanwhile, they are out of both domestic cup competitions and on the cusp of being eliminated from the Champions League, having lost the first leg of their last-16 clash with Real Madrid 5-2.
In turn, Liverpool have been tipped to undergo a massive rebuild in the summer, with Borussia Dortmund star Bellingham thought to be their No.1 transfer target.
Of course, the teenager is the most sought-after midfielder in world football, with Real, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United also said to be pursuing the player’s signature.
However, Liverpool may be able to bring in Bellingham in 2024 by paying a release clause for the England star, according to a reputable journalist.
Bellingham to Liverpool?
According to Andy Brassell, Bellingham could sign a new contract at Dortmund and stay at the Signal Iduna Park for another season. However, the new deal would include a release clause.
While referencing Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl, Brassell told talkSPORT: “The other half of what Kehl said was: ‘I am very much hoping to get Jude Bellingham to stay another year’.
“There has been speculation in Germany that they will offer him an enormous salary, around about the €15m-a-year mark, to get him to stay for an extra year – with a buyout clause in 2024, as well.
“I just wonder in the spot Liverpool are at the moment, if you were Jude Bellingham, say Liverpool don’t qualify for the Champions League.
“If you’re Jude maybe you think ‘well, maybe I’ll give them a year to sort it out and carry on playing Champions League, especially if things are going well and for a lot of money’.
“It can’t be completely ruled out but clearly people in Germany love Bellingham so much.”
