Osasuna vs Real Betis Preview
Real Betis travel to El Sadar this Saturday as they bid to close in on a European place for the 2023/24 season. Much will depend on Osasuna for that, not just in this game but in the Copa del Rey Final in a fortnight’s time, the outcome of which will determine which league places grant European football.
Osasuna know that 7th would be good enough for them to qualify for the Conference League, even if they do lose to Real Madrid in Seville. However they have slipped back a bit in that race with a 2-1 defeat in Vallecas last time out ensuring they come into this game only 10th in the table, 5 points off Athletic Club who are currently 7th.
With four league games to squeeze in before their cup final, there are some big decisions to be made from Jagoba Arrasate in terms of selection and how best to keep players fresh. Unquestionably that game will be the priority but Arrasate won’t want to go into it with his team in poor form so they’ll be looking for at least a couple of wins between now and then to ensure they take some momentum and confidence with them to Cartuja.
Real Betis are the cup holders but they only have league football to focus on between now and the end of the campaign. An impressive 3-1 win over Espanyol last time out capped a perfect weekend with top four rivals Real Sociedad and Villarreal both losing. They could make a real statement of intent in that particular race by coming here and winning and a two-goal win would temporarily at least push Betis into 4th place.
There were several positives for Betis last weekend, particularly on the left side of the pitch where they’ve been less convincing since Alex Moreno’s move to Aston Villa. Juan Miranda has big boots to fill but he grabbed a rare goal in that game and combined well with left winger Ayoze Perez who also scored and has proved a useful addition since moving to the club in January.

Score Prediction: Osasuna 1-1 Real Betis
This is a really tough game to call with neither side having been hugely consistent since the turn of the year. It’s perhaps a bit early for Osasuna to be thinking too much about resting players ahead of their cup final and they ought to prove a real challenge for Betis who will do well to collect more than a point from this one.
