Germany U21 international Jan Thielmann of 1. FC Köln is unfortunately headed back to the sidelines after suffering a new injury on Saturday’s away loss at Stuttgart.

Köln attacker Jan Thielmann – after having already dealing with a viral infection and an ill-timed muscle pull that cost him a chance at getting back into head-coach Steffen Baumgart’s starting XI – will now be out indefinitely after suffering a new injury in his right thigh. The 20-year-old found himself unable to continue after being subbed on later on in this weekend’s 0-3 loss away at Stuttgart.
The cathedral city club didn’t give any precise information about the German youth international’s downtime, but Frank Lußem of Germany’s Kicker magazine reports that Thielmann will be out for a minimum of three to four weeks. The Palatinate native only made five starts for Baumgart this year, yet was still valued by the Effzeh gaffer as a reliable go-to-sub later in matches.
“Jan is very committed to his football,” Baumgart remarked in a statement released by the club, “He is still one of those guys who always puts in a steady amount work and always stands at the ready. I think these are bitter moments for the lad and for us. Unfortunately, they are part of football; too often for Jan at the moment. It hurts a lot.”
