Mason Greenwood holds first face-to-face meeting with Man United after charges dropped

Mason Greenwood has reportedly held a first face-to-face meeting with Manchester United’s top brass after charges of attempted rape, assault and coercive control against him were dropped.

But while there are currently no criminal proceedings against him, United reiterated that the player is still under suspension – with Greenwood continuing to be paid around £75,000-a-week despite not being part of the first-team squad at present.

The club said they would conduct an internal investigation and The Sun reports a first face-to-face meeting since January 2022 between Greenwood and United has taken place.

It’s said to have happened prior to United’s Europa League play-off first leg clash Barcelona last week.

A source told the newspaper: “Mason and his team met with the club to start the process of trying to get to the bottom of exactly what may or may not have happened.

“It is an extremely sensitive situation and the club think it is only fair that Mason is given the opportunity to fully explain himself.

“The club are keen to hear his version of events. Only when they have the full picture, can they start to move things forward.”

The purpose is for United chiefs to gain a “more complete understanding” of the allegations made and to learn his version of events.

Members of the United women’s team are understood to have “serious concerns” over the possibility of Greenwood heading back to the Carrington base they share with the men’s team.
