Man Utd ‘to bid £55m for Mason Mount’ as Liverpool and Arsenal told Chelsea’s asking price

Manchester United are planning a huge bid to beat Liverpool to the signature of Chelsea star Mason Mount, according to a new report.

Mount’s Chelsea contract expires in the summer of 2024, and he has been in talks over an extension.

But an agreement has yet to be reached, despite Blues co-owner Todd Boehly leading negotiations, with various reports claiming that disagreements over Mount‘s base wage, bonuses and image rights are holding up the deal.

Liverpool have been credited with an interest as Jurgen Klopp looks to rebuild his midfield – but they now face fierce competition from Erik ten Hag and United.

According to a new report, United want Mount as one of their primary targets – and are prepared to pay a big fee to get him.

United join Mason Mount race

The Daily Mail claim that Ten Hag is keen to bring Mount to Old Trafford this summer, amid interest from both Liverpool and Bayern Munich.

It is added that United are prepared to pay a fee of £55 million to Chelsea, with the 24-year-old only having a year left on his existing contract. However, that is said to be below the Blues’ £85 million valuation.

But it is claimed that Ten Hag’s side may be prepared to increase their bid for the Chelsea academy graduate, who has been associated with the London club since the age of nine.

The Athletic’s David Ornstein, meanwhile, has reported that ‘most’ of Liverpool’s groundwork for summer transfers is ‘done’ – whether that groundwork includes a significant bid for Mount to fend off United interest remains to be seen.

He explained: “Mason Mount is a funny one. People always seem down on him – I’ve never got it. I’m a huge fan.

“He’s got energy to press, he’ll provide a greater goal threat from midfield. Every top manager has picked him.”
