UNITED 4 ASTON VILLA 2 (Carabao Cup)
United were twice behind in this dramatic Carabao Cup tie, but the substitution of Alejandro Garnacho swung the match our favour in the final 30 minutes. After a tenacious Rashford goal had made it 2-2, Garnacho set up Fernandes to put us ahead and then swung a delicious cross onto Scott McTominay’s outstretched right boot to make the victory secure in time added on.
UNITED 2 MANCHESTER CITY 1 (Premier League)
The most memorable result of the season so far? The Reds feared the worst when Jack Grealish put Pep Guardiola’s Blues ahead on the hour, but a controversial Fernandes equaliser changed the shape of the game, before Garnacho – in another classic cameo – swept a low ball in for Rashford to poke home the winner. After a 6-3 humbling at the Etihad in October, this was the clearest sign yet that Ten Hag’s team were cooking something special.
UNITED 2 LEEDS 2 (Premier League)
This was a real off-night for the Reds, who conceded in the first few seconds of each half to find themselves 2-0 down with only 40 minutes or so left. But again, Ten Hag’s substitutions paid off: Facundo Pellistri’s graft laid the foundations for the Rashford header that made it 2-1, and then Jadon Sancho levelled in the 70th minute. United could have won it late on through Raphael Varane’s header, but this was clearly one point gained, given the circumstances.
