Man Utd fans left unhappy at price of pre-season friendly involving youth and reserve players

Manchester United fans have been left extremely annoyed after they spotted the ticket prices for their pre-season friendly against Wrexham.

The whole video, which went viral on social media, was to announce a friendly match between Premier League United and National League Wrexham in the summer,

In the statement announcing the match, it was quite obvious that United will turn up to the game with what will likely not be their first choice side, understandably against a team who will expect to be in League Two by then.

“Pre-season tours are always a great occasion to give opportunities for our most promising young Academy players to gain valuable experience in the first-team environment, and this match against Wrexham is a great example of that,” football director John Murtagh said.

“Manchester United has a history of nurturing and promoting youth and this is a chance for not only Erik [ten Hag] but also our US supporters to assess the homegrown talent that is developing within our Academy, and hopefully to be able to say, ‘I saw him here first,’ if some of those players go on to establish themselves as first-team regulars.”

Despite that though, fans have realised that the tickets have gone on sale, and they’ll have to pay a minimum of $170 to get a seat, with most availability being for $250.

“Anybody who pays that is a mug,” said one fan.

“So all that hype and advert is for academy and reserves?” questioned another.

A third added, “Rip off for a friendly.”

A further supporter clearly didn’t like the idea of Americans, so probably shouldn’t go on the tour, noting, “Sat with a load of Yanks dressed as Deadpool too.”

Another explained it was just part of being a sports fan in America, replying, “Just be glad you aren’t an Eagles or Chiefs fan. Many of them went to every game only to be priced out by $10,000 for the Super Bowl.”

“Grubby. But no surprise with this mob,” said a sixth fan, no doubt as angry as many at the running of the club by the Glazer family.

And it wasn’t just fans of the English club who were annoyed at the prices, “We need cheaper ticket prices,” exclaimed a Wrexham fan.

“Too expensive for a friendly I’m off to Benidorm instead,” posted a second fan with alternate holiday ideas.

And another fan summed up the problems with football, tweeting, “Wow. $200 for a ticket? To see Manchester United kids vs fourth tier club.? Football is dead for the common supporter. Shame on football.”

It’s not even the first time recently that United fans have had issues with the prices for tickets, after the owners revealed a rise in ticket prices at Old Trafford for the first time in 11 years.

The supporters are still hoping to get rid of the Americans in the not too distant future but before then they’ll have to pay a lot of money for a second string side in a friendly this summer, it’s likely to only entice local fans.
