Mallorca vs Getafe Preview
Mallorca welcome Getafe to Palma this Sunday. It’s a game the hosts really need to win if they want to maintain a glimmer of hope when it comes to a European challenge while the visitors are looking to move clear of danger at the bottom.
37 points is now the tally Mallorca have after an impressive 1-0 win in Vigo on Monday. Three more points would push them onto the magic 40 figure which is usually sufficient for survival and it’d represent a good season for the Balearic Islanders who needed a final day win to stay up last term. They had actually gone 6 without a win before their trip to Balaidos but a strong 1st Half display and a goal from Amath Ndiaye provided the foundations for their victory.
They actually scored three times in their previous game, an entertaining draw at Valladolid but Son Moix has not been the place to go for entertainment this season. Mallorca have only scored more than once at home on one occasion (the 4-2 win over Villarreal) but they have only conceded three times in their six home games against current bottom half opposition.
That’s a measure of the task facing Getafe here as they look to create chances against their defensively sound opponents. Quique Sanchez Flores’ side are hardly known for their entertainment factor either with 0-0 draws in two of their last three games, including the clash with leaders Barcelona last weekend.
However they are doing a good job of ensuring their points tally continues to tick over and they boast a four point advantage on the bottom three heading into this matchday. The visitors have an almost fully fit squad to choose from with Mauro Arambarri the only notable absentee. Enes Unal and Borja Mayoral will lead the line again and will be hoping to pounce on any momentary lapses of concentration at the back from Mallorca in what’s likely to be a very tight game.
