Liverpool star Caoimhin Kelleher has asked to leave the club, according to a fresh report.
It’s been a tumultuous season for Liverpool, marked by injury and poor form.
However, a stunning 7-0 victory over bitter rivals Manchester United on Sunday has seen Jurgen Klopp’s side move to within three points of a Champions League spot, with a game in hand over fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur.
Yet the Merseyside club are unlikely to claim any silverware this term. Their Champions League hopes are hanging by a thread, having lost the first leg of their last-16 tie against reigning champions Real Madrid 5-2.
Meanwhile, Liverpool were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Manchester City at the round-of-16 stage in December and their FA Cup hopes came to an abrupt end in January, losing to Brighton in the fourth round of the competition.
Failure in domestic cup competitions has led to a significant reduction in No.2 keeper Kelleher’s playing-time, with the Republic of Ireland international having reportedly asked to leave the club.
Kelleher to leave Liverpool?
According to The Transfer Room, Kelleher has asked to leave Liverpool in the summer in pursuit of more game time.
The 24-year-old, who has deputised for Alisson Becker for the past four seasons, is allegedly valued at around £30million, with a host of Premier League clubs said to be interested.
It is thought that Klopp wants to keep the Irishman, who has been a key player in the Reds’ cup success over the past few years, most notably helping Liverpool win the Carabao Cup las
However, the Liverpool boss, who described Kelleher as “exceptional” after his penalty heroics against Derby County in November, will reportedly not stand in the shot-stoppers way.
Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City are said to be one of these clubs keen on signing the keeper, whose current Liverpool deal runs until 2026.
Aston Villa are also thought to be interested, along with Scottish giants Celtic.
