Liverpool must avoid previous transfer mistake as Jurgen Klopp outlines summer strategy

Jurgen Klopp must avoid one previous mistake if Liverpool are to be successful in the summer transfer window.

Following a torrid campaign, the Reds are hoping to finish on a high as they spy a late surge to finish in the Champions League places.

They face Brentford next in the Premier League, as Klopp looks to make it six league wins on the bounce.

In the meantime, the German will be itching for the summer transfer window to open, with Liverpool expected to pay particular attention to their midfield.

However, Klopp must avoid one key transfer mistake he made last season, with his list of summer targets seemingly growing by the day.

Liverpool must avoid key transfer mistake

Scrambling for alternatives, Klopp opted to sign Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo on loan in what looked to be a panic decision.

As a result, the Reds boss has cast a wide net over any potential midfield additions this time round, but must act fast to avoid repeating old habits.

Discussing how he plans to navigate the summer transfer window in his press conference, Klopp said: “We will bring in players who we want and who will help us, I am pretty confident of that.

“If you identify a position and you have more than one option in that position, then that should all be good. Of course you might have a favourite but if that club doesn’t want to sell, or if somebody else will pay the price then you cannot [sign them].

“But usually we get the players we want, and then they are here. That’s how it is.”

Brighton midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has now emerged as Liverpool’s top target, with the club having ‘opened talks’ with the Argentina international, according to Football Insider.

Supporters will hope they can get a deal wrapped up quickly, knowing the 24-year-old will have plenty of suitors this summer.
