In the rumor pipeline for over a month, negotiations for the transfer of former FSV Mainz 05 and FC Schalke 04 sporting director to the RB Leipzig front office are reportedly nearing completion. Schröder’s resignation from Schalke in October enabled the 47-year-old to still collect some severance money from the Westphalian club on a suspended contract. More importantly, Schalke would receive some money from his next employer.
“We received an offer that fully meets the conditions that we agreed with Rouven when he resigned and we suspended the contract,” acting Schalke sporting director Peter Knäbel told Sky Germany on Sunday, “I assume the matter will be concluded in the coming days.”
Germany’s main sporting tabloid reports that the Königsblauen will pocket around €500,000 from Leipzig. It is still not known precisely what sort of position Schröder will hold in Max Eberl’s front office. Eberl does find himself in need of a squad planer/technical director following Christopher Vivell’s departure in October.
