Ahead of this weekend’s clash with Schalke 04, VfL Bochum forward Philipp Hofmann has reflected on his special relationship with the Gelsenkirchen club.
VfL Bochum forward Philipp Hofmann will be up against the club he supported as a kid this weekend as Schalke 04 travel to the Vonovia Ruhrstadion.
Asked about his lifelong dream of playing for Schalke, the 29-year-old striker told Sport Bild:
“Schalke often had the chance to get me. It was always a goal of mine to play for Schalke, but I think Bochum suits me quite well, too. I’m very happy here.”
With Schalke and Bochum both part of the relegation scrap, Hofmann insists he’s not happy when the Gelsenkirchen club scores.
“Not at all in the current situation. I’ll be happy if Schalke lose,” he emphasized.
“Basically, I think it’s good to have the club in the league. But when Schalke scores a goal, I don’t jump around the flat anymore.”
