IND vs AUS: I Dont See Shreyas Iyer As A Good Player Of Spin

Ian Chappell, the former Australian player, expressed his dissatisfaction with the technique used by Indian batsman Shreyas Iyer during the third Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test against Australia. The match took place at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore, and Australia emerged victorious by nine wickets on the third day of the game.

During the third Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test, India struggled on a pitch that heavily favored spin bowlers, resulting in them being bowled out for 109 and 163 in their first and second innings, respectively.

Shreyas Iyer, the middle-order batsman for India, was dismissed for a second-ball duck in the first innings by left-arm spinner Matthew Kuhnemann. However, Iyer attacked the spinners in the second innings, hitting Kuhnemann for two sixes and Lyon for two boundaries before being caught by Usman Khawaja off Mitchell Starc’s delivery, ending his 26-run knock.

Ian Chappell Not Impressed With Shreyas Iyer’s Aggressive Approach

Despite Iyer’s aggressive approach in the second innings, Ian Chappell, a former Australian captain, was critical of the batter’s technique against spinners. In an interview with ESPNcricinfo after the third Test, Chappell explained why Iyer’s approach may not be effective in any other conditions.

“A lot of the Indian players that they are talking about are (said to be) good players of spin bowling. Shreyas Iyer being one. I don’t see that. I think Shreyas Iyer is the sort of player who says well ‘I am going to get them before they get me’.”

“That tends to be more of a white-ball attitude and you can get away with that on flat pitches. But on those sort of pitches, that is not the technique.”

On March 9, the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will host the fourth Test match between India and Australia. With the WTC Finals spot at stake, the team led by Rohit Sharma will be eager to secure a victory.
