“I Was Confident Batting With Ayush Badoni At The Crease”- Nicholas Pooran After Winning PoTM

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) snatched victory from the jaws of defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). LSG won the clash by a mere 1 run while defending 177 runs. LSG’s dynamic left-handed batter Nicholas Pooran took the team out of the precarious position at 73-5. Nicholas Pooran played a fiery knock of 58 runs in 30 balls and struck 5 sixes and 4 fours.

Jason Roy & Venkatesh Iyer got KKR off to a blistering start. LSG skipper didn’t panic even when KKR scored 61 runs in the first 6 overs of the match for the loss of no wickets. Along with Bishnoi & Gowtham, Krunal too was economical and the trio took 4 wickets between them and cramped the batters for room.

KKR fans would be utterly disappointed as Andre Russell failed to perform in a crunch match. Rinku Singh fought a lone battle when the side needed 41 runs to win from 2 overs and KKR just fell short by one run. Rinku Singh’s turbulent knock of 67 runs in 33 balls wasn’t enough to end the tournament on a high.

KKR’s decision to send Rahmanullah Gurbaz to the no.4 position was quite questionable as he was seen struggling against the spinners. Yash Thakur held his nerve in the last over and defended 21 runs. Yash Thakur took 2 wickets and gave away 31 runs in his 3 overs.

KKR were in control in LSG’s first half of the innings and skipper Nitish Rana would rue the fact that they can’t restrict LSG to below 160.

LSG fans would be pumped up after winning a do-or-die kind of match. LSG now have qualified for the playoffs and have 17 points from 14 matches and an NRR of +0.28 and are in 3rd position on the points table. KKR on the other side are placed at 7th position and have 12 points and an NRR of -0.23. KKR fans would rue that their batters couldn’t step up in crucial moments of the match.

I knew I had to take it as deep as possible- Nicholas Pooran

During the post-match presentation, Nicholas Pooran revealed his strategy when he came into the bat and the side were in a poor position. Nicholas Pooran praised Ayush Badoni with whom he formed a partnership of 74 runs in 47 balls and stated that he is confident when Badoni is there.

“I knew I had to take it as deep as possible. When the spinners were bowling, I knew they’ll give me bad balls and this was a small pitch. I’ve been batting well throughout the tournament, and I pride myself to play in such situations. The time has invested heavily in me and these are the ways that I can repay them,” said Nicholas Pooran.

“Ayush (Badoni) and I had that partnership against Chennai as well. I was confident batting with him at the crease. I think it is impressive that our bowlers are standing up to the challenge, they have done it in the last two games. We have a young bowling attack and to come to Eden Gardens and defend that kind of total was amazing,” he added.
