Storm Hunter has scored one of many greatest singles wins of her profession at a WTA 250 match in Hamburg.
The 28-year-old Australian recorded a 3-6 6-3 6-3 victory towards world No.22 Donna Vekic within the opening spherical.
It’s world No.154 Hunter’s fourth profession top-50 win and her first ever recorded on clay.
Hunter completed their one-hour and 54-minute encounter strongly, conceding solely two factors on serve within the deciding set.
The highest-seeded Vekic, who helped Croatia clinch the Hopman Cup in France final week, is the highest-ranked opponent that Hunter has defeated since beating her present doubles companion Elise Mertens on the Billie Jean King Cup Finals in November 2021.
Daria Saville has continued her profitable type too, eliminating fourth-seeded Italian Jasmine Paolini within the opening spherical.
It’s Saville’s third consecutive win after navigating her method by means of qualifying.
World No.47 Paolini was a finalist at a WTA 250 match in Palermo final week, however fell to Saville in straight units.
