“Have Been Struggling In Patches,” Andre Russell Says He’s Confident And Knows What He Can Do

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) all-rounder Andre Russell opened up about his struggling form in the Indian Premier League  (IPL) 2023. He said that he is struggling in patches but is confident about his ability and knows what he can do.

Andre Russell has been a complete failure with the bat in the IPL 2023. In the 8 games so far in the tournament, he has managed just 108 runs at an average of just 18. He also has a strike rate of under 140 and has been the main reason behind KKR’s poor outing this season.

In the recent game against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), he scored just 1 run in 2 balls as he was castled by the brilliant Yorker from Mohammed Siraj. It’s fair to say that his failure hampered KKR of a few extra runs in the end. They, however, managed 200 runs on the board.

Russell, however, made sure that if he fails with the bat, he steps up with the ball for his team. The all-rounder bowled a staggering spell and guided his side to their third victory of the season and move up on the points table.

He took a big wicket of Virat Kohli and Wanindu Hasaranga to return with the figures of 2/29. His resounding spell restricted RCB to a total of 179 runs and KKR won the game by 21 runs to mark their second victory over them in the season.

Andre Russell said that victory was extremely important for them as they were under the pump. He also revealed the team’s plan. Speaking at the post-match presentation, he said:

“We really needed that victory. Have been under the pump last couple of games. Batting first tonight, we know once we get a good total on the board – runs on the board is pressure. Our goal was to keep their powerplay under 55. We were able to pull it back in the middle. Batting first or batting second comes down to the amount of runs you’re setting up, and the dew factor.”

Andre Russell further talked about his poor form and credited Mohammed Siraj for taking his wicket with a brilliant ball. He elaborated:

“Once I get the ball I try to do my best. Have been struggling in patches with the bat. Still confident, still know what to do. Got a really good yorker, credit to Siraj. Recovery is important to me. The older I get, the more experienced, the more I look after my body.”

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will be next seen in action when they will take on Gujarat Titans (GT) in their next game on Saturday (29th April) at the Eden Gardens.
