Getafe vs Osasuna Preview
Getafe and Osasuna face off at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez this weekend in a really important game for both clubs. The hosts are targeting a win that would push them to the brink of safety while Osasuna are eyeing up a European place.
There are similarities in how these two clubs have pretty impressively managed to establish themselves in the top flight having won promotion in the late 2010’s. Getafe enjoyed a really strong few years under Jose Bordalas but he returned recently with the club in need of a bit of the old magic. While performances have rarely been brilliant, they’ve dug in and shown plenty of the characteristics you’d associate with a Bordalas team, most notably in midweek as a set-piece goal sealed a vital 1-0 win at Betis.
Getafe do have a pretty big problem following that game though with top scorer Enes Unal suffering a cruciate ligament injury that will not only rule him out for the remainder of this season, but much of next. With Bordalas seemingly not a big lover of Borja Mayoral, you do have to wonder where the goals are going to come from in their final two games with a potentially vital last day trip to fellow strugglers Real Valladolid after this.
As for Osasuna, the pressure is nowhere near as great, but they won’t be in any kind of charitable mood with Conference League qualification now firmly in their sights. That’s thanks to an excellent 2-0 win on Thursday over Athletic Club which saw them leap over Ernesto Valverde’s side and take 7th spot by virtue of their superior head-to-head record.
Sevilla and Girona are also fighting hard for that place though, so Osasuna would need to win their final two games to absolutely guarantee European qualification. 4 points might do the trick and it’s likely to come down to next weekend when Jagoba Arrasate’s side play host to Girona at El Sadar.
Team News & Possible Lineups
Getafe
INJURED | Unal |
DOUBTFUL | Arambarri |
BANNED | Alena |
Possible XI: Soria – Gaston, Alderete, Mitrovic, Damian – Portu, Djene, Maksimovic, Iglesias – Mata, Mayoral (4-4-2)
Coach: Jose Bordalas
Osasuna
INJURED | Brasanac, Vidal |
DOUBTFUL | Moi Gomez, Cruz |
BANNED | Budimir |
Possible XI: Aitor – Cruz, David Garcia, Aridane, Pena – Moncayola, Torro, Oroz – Abde, Chimy, Barja (4-3-3)
Coach: Jagoba Arrasate
Score Prediction: Getafe 0-0 Osasuna
It’s hard to see many goals here with both sides pretty sound defensively and not prone to taking too many risks. The absences of the Unal and the suspended Ante Budimir for the visitors also raise the prospect of the points being shared in a not particularly entertaining affair.
