Getafe vs Elche Preview
A packed out Coliseum Alfonso Perez awaits what is another very important game for Getafe in their survival fight. Three points here against bottom club Elche feels like a must if Jose Bordalas’ team want to avoid the drop to the second tier.
Getafe are in the relegation zone heading into this matchday but they’d move onto 37 points with a win. It’s already clear that Bordalas has had an impact with all three of their matches since the change ending with 1-0 scorelines. Defensively they’ve been pretty solid but they have managed just the one goal under Bordalas so far and that was a penalty from Enes Unal, very early in their last home game against Celta.
They should have scored more in that game in truth and they should get opportunities here against this Elche defence. The good news is that Mauro Arambarri looks set to be fit to partner Nemanja Maksimovic in midfield, with the duo a key part of Bordalas’ previous and largely successful spell in charge of this club. The suspended Jaime Mata may be their only absentee.
They are up against an Elche side that has doubled their win tally for the season in recent weeks. They stunned Atletico Madrid with a 1-0 home last weekend, having put 4 past Rayo at the end of April. Those are impressive results but it’s far too little too late as far as Elche are concerned with their relegation confirmed after their last away game, a 2-1 loss against Almeria.
They need just two more points to better the joint worst points tally for a LaLiga side this century. That may provide some motivation and they have certainly looked a more capable outfit of late with Sebastián Beccacece starting to get a bit more out of these players. Edgar Badia has still had to pull off some great saves in goal and he’s one of the few that can perhaps end this miserable campaign with a degree of credit.

Score Prediction: Getafe 1-0 Elche
Getafe and Bordalas always felt like a good fit the first time around and we can have a pretty good idea of what to expect here. It’s unlikely to be pretty and Elche may see a lot of the ball, but Getafe are the side with a bit more quality in the final third, particularly in the shape of Enes Unal, and that may be decisive.
