Getafe vs Barcelona Preview
Barcelona’s march towards the league title takes them to the Coliseum this weekend to face Getafe. The hosts are in need of the points as they look to edge clear of the drop-zone but would take any kind of result here.
Overall, it feels like Getafe should have just enough to beat the drop. When you compare them to some of the other teams at the bottom, defensively they are more robust and they have the likes of Enes Unal and Borja Mayoral who are always capable of popping up with a goal that might settle a tight game.
Chances are likely to be hard to come by here against the division’s best defence and it’s unlikely we’ll see Quique Sanchez Flores take too many risks with his team selection or tactics. His side’s two matches against Barcelona and Real Madrid this season have both ended in narrow 1-0 defeats while they’ve taken points off the likes of Atletico Madrid, Real Sociedad, Villarreal and Athletic Club. That should at least enable them to take some belief into this game.
Barcelona haven’t been at their best in recent weeks and have failed to score in each of their last two outings, a 4-0 Copa del Rey loss to Real Madrid and goalless draw against Girona in LaLiga on Monday. It’d be an exaggeration to say that Xavi will be a worried man with his team 13 points clear at the top and having conceded just 9 goals all season, but recent games have exposed a few cracks and issues when it comes to squad depth.
That won’t be easy to resolve in the summer given Barcelona are not going to be in a position to splash the kind of cash they did last year. However they may look to try to use the free transfer market to bolster their squad with Manchester City’s İlkay Gündoğan one potential option. They are still missing four first team regulars to injury here though which should lead to the likes of Eric Garcia, Sergi Roberto and Ansu Fati getting another start.
