SC Freiburg have confirmed that Mark Flekken has left the club to join Brentford FC in the English Premier League.

“I have experienced five incredibly intense years in Freiburg, with lows like my serious injury and with many highs like the Europa League games, the DFB Cup final and great performances in the Bundesliga,” said Flekken.

“I would like to thank the people in charge for their trust in me over the years. The time at Sport-Club has shaped me and I am grateful to have experienced it as an athlete and as a person.

Freiburg’s sporting director Jochen Saier is quoted as saying:

“We showed Mark a clear perspective five years ago and have consistently followed this path together. He didn’t let setbacks throw him off track and we trusted him in difficult times – that’s what connects us.

“Over the past two years, Mark has become a strong supporter of our team. We thank Mark for his work on and off the field and for the successful time we spent together at Sport Club. We wish him all the best as he moves to London.

Brentford paid a reported €13 million to sign the 29-year-old goalkeeper.
