Fiorentina 1-2 Inter: Inter clinch back-to-back Coppa Italia wins

Inter Milan are Coppa Italia winners once again after beating Fiorentina in a match between two sides who both have another final to look forward to this season.

After an action-packed first half, Inter went in 2-1 up at the break thanks to a Lautaro Martinez double putting the Nerazzurri ahead after Nico Gonzalez opened the scoring for Fiorentina.

The 25-year-old Argentinian had a simple back-post finish in the third minute to send Viola fans into dreamland, hoping for a first Coppa Italia win since 2001.

Lautaro Martinez is a player for the big occasions, though, and he stepped up once again, dragging Inter not just back into the game but putting them in charge.

The first was a strong, low finish across goal after a defence-splitting Brozovic pass gave him an excellent opportunity.

His second was more spectacular, volleying in Barella’s cross in emphatic fashion. An eight-minute double from the Argentine forward.

The score stayed 2-1, despite Fiorentina‘s best efforts, but Inter defended well and could rely on the veteran Samir Handanovic in goal who kept them ahead on more than one occasion.

Fiorentina managed more shots on target than Inter, but the quality of Martinez and Handanovic were the difference.

Inter lift the Coppa Italia for the second consecutive year, a consolation prize for a poor domestic season, but they do still have the Champions League final to look forward to.

Fiorentina also have another shot at silverware as they will be playing the Conference League final against West Ham.
