Erik ten Hag makes clearest indication yet he wants to sign ‘the next Erling Haaland’

Manchester United have made the clearest indication yet that want to sign a striker dubbed “the next Erling Haaland”.

While United have made tangible improvements during Erik ten Hag’s tenure, the club have been held back by their inability to field a top-class number nine.

Since Cristiano Ronado’s acrimonious departure back in November, United have used Anthony Martial and Wout Weghorst at various periods.

However, while injury has restricted Martial’s game time, Weghorst’s performance’s this term have come under immense criticism.

The Netherlands international has claimed just two goals since arriving from Burnley in the January window, none of which were in the Premier League.

In turn, United have been tipped to sign a high-profile forward in the summer window, with Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen among the names frequently linked.

Man Utd in for Hojlund

Another player often linked with an Old Trafford move is Rasmus Hojlund.

And according to Danish outlet BT, United have submitted a “letter of interest” for the Atalanta striker, who has been dubbed the “next Erling Haaland”,

The letter to Atalanta allegedly details that United wish to be informed of any changes in the Danish star’s future plans.

However, United aren’t the only side thought to be keeping tabs on the Dane, with Chelsea, Arsenal, Real Madrid and Barcelona all reportedly interested.

Hojlund made his international debut for Denmark last September and has since netted five goals in four games for his national team. The tally includes a hat-trick in a 3-1 win over Finland in March.

The 20-year-old’s goal prowess, Scandinavian background and frame are behind the comparisons with Haaland, who netted his 48th goal of the season in Manchester City’s Champions League clash with Bayern Munich on Wednesday night.
