Elche vs Cadiz Preview
Elche and Cadiz meet in a bottom of the table clash on Sunday. There’s nothing really at stake for already relegated Elche but they’ve been playing well of late and will hope to get the better of a Cadiz side that is not yet mathematically safe.
Rock bottom and the undisputed worst team in the league for virtually the entire season, Elche have finally started to show a bit more in recent weeks with some excellent results including a shock win in Bilbao last weekend. Remarkably they are the only team in LaLiga who has avoided defeat in each of their last 4 games and they’d dearly love to extend that record to 5 and sign off with a win here.
Elche’s supporters have long since accepted the reality that their side was going to be relegated and they’ll finally be feeling a bit more positive about life now. Despite their struggles, Sebastián Beccacece is believed to be keen to keep the bulk of this squad together for an attack at promotion next term and we’ve started to see a clearer spine to this side emerge in recent weeks.
As for Cadiz, they head into the final day of the season unsure of their fate for the second season running. However the situation is far more in their favour this time than it was twelve months ago. They are the highest ranked and least likely to go down of the six teams still in relegation danger but there is still an unlikely set of results that could see them relegated on Sunday.
A point would be enough for them here to secure safety. They have tended to perform well against the sides near the bottom this term, losing only one match against the seven teams currently below them in the table. However they’ve not been particularly inspired on the road of late, losing their last three matches away from Cadiz with some key home wins responsible for pushing them to the brink of safety.

Score Prediction: Elche 2-1 Cadiz
It feels like Elche’s players are finally enjoying their football again and they’ve started to look really competitive which makes this a much tougher final day fixture than it initially looks for Cadiz. Beccacece’s men appear hungry to put as many points on the board to give this season a degree of respectability and they could have the edge with the visitors still struggling with a lot of selection issues. It’s unlikely to be a result that would relegate Cadiz though given how much would have to go against them elsewhere.
