Chennai Super Kings skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni has finally arrived in the city to start training ahead of the IPL season. The former Indian captain was warmly greeted by a swarm of fans, who were eagerly waiting at the Chennai airport to get a glimpse of their Thala.
The official Twitter handle of the Chennai Super Kings confirmed in a tweet the arrival of their captain, who has led the franchise to glory 4 times in the IPL. The tweet read, “Thala Dharisanam, finally” (English: The boss has finally arrived), along with a picture of MSD arriving at his hotel.
Twitter swarmed with fans sharing videos of the legend arriving at the Chennai airport. Dhoni will soon join the Chennai camp at the franchise’s home ground Chepauk, and begin training. After giving up the captaincy last year, MS Dhoni has once again assumed the role of the franchise’s captain.
Before the beginning of the last season of the IPL, Dhoni had handed over the captaincy of Chennai to Ravindra Jadeja. Having failed to deliver as a captain, Jadeja gave the captaincy back to Dhoni mid-season. CSK entered the tournament as defending champion last year. However, the team’s performance was rather disappointing and the team failed to even move past the league stage.
However, CSK went all guns blazing at the auction and added a couple of really good match winners. The addition of English captain Ben Stokes could really turn the tide for the franchise this season.
It is speculated that this might very well be the last year at the IPL for Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Dhoni had previously hinted that we would make a final call about his career after this year’s IPL. In such a scenario, CSK may also be looking at potential future captains for their franchise. CSK will play their first game against the Gujarat Titans on March 31st.
