Real Madrid travel to London this week hoping to book their place in yet another UEFA Champions League Semi-Final. They will be strongly expected to do just that with a 2-0 advantage after goals from Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio clinched a 1st Leg win in Madrid last week.

With the exception of an off-day against an impressive Villarreal, there is a sense that Real Madrid have really found an extra gear since returning from the international break with some really impressive displays and results. Aside from the Villarreal defeat, they’ve won their other four matches this month to nil, scoring 14 times in the process.

The latest was a 2-0 win at Cadiz at the weekend which came despite a fair bit of rotation. Los Blancos had 35 attempts on goal in the game and could easily have won by more. The likes of Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Dani Carvajal should all rotate back into the team here, although Real Madrid still have a fitness doubt over the influential Vini Junior. Rodrygo’s impressive display on the left at the weekend will ease any concerns Carlo Ancelotti might have had about going into this fixture without Vini though.

Perhaps Real Madrid’s biggest danger here could be the risk of complacency setting in. Chelsea have lost all three games since reappointing Frank Lamparad until the end of the season and they are winless in six overall. Their tally of 30 goals from 31 Premier League games this season strongly hints at their problem and they are going to have to be a whole lot more clinical to stand any chance of staging a famous comeback here.

They no longer appear to have anything to fight for in the league after their latest defeat which came at home to Brighton at the weekend. Therefore this is the only real chance Chelsea’s players have to salvage anything from a miserable season. If nothing else, they’ll want to put in a display worthy of the quality that undoubtedly exists in this expensively compiled squad.

Score Prediction: Chelsea 0-2 Real Madrid (Aggregate: 0-4)

This tie is set up nicely for Real Madrid to defend relatively deep and look to strike on the break with the pace and energy of the likes of Rodrgyo and Fede Valverde. They’d love to have Vini available too and that would make them an even greater threat on the break but Chelsea’s inability to convert chances suggests they will struggle to make any serious inroads into Real Madrid’s advantage in any case.
