Celta Vigo vs Valencia Preview
Sunday’s action in the Spanish top flight kicks off in Galicia where Celta Vigo and Valencia face off in an important game at the bottom end of the table. A poor run of form has seen Celta slide back towards an element of danger but they could all but guarantee survival by winning this game.
Celta have been one of the biggest mysteries of LaLiga since the turn of the year. They were outstanding between January and March, with a series of really impressive performances and victories as Gabri Veiga and Iago Aspas combined to fire them up the league and towards an unlikely European push. However it’s just 1 win in 7 from April onwards with neither Veiga nor Aspas scoring during that period.
Perhaps speculation about his future and the highs of an outstanding breakthrough season have got to the former a little bit, but it has been a drop-off in performances across the pitch which will have got Carlos Carvalhal a little bit concerned. They’ve lost 4 of their last 5 and were second best last time out away to struggling Getafe, creating very few opportunities in the game.
Valencia haven’t exactly been sparkling either but they have managed to grind out some important results with 7 points a decent return from their last 4 fixtures. They held local rivals Villarreal to a 1-1 draw last time out but are only outside the relegation zone by virtue of a superior head-to-head record over 18th placed Getafe. It’s shaping up to be a very nervy end to the campaign for supporters of this huge football club.
With Real Madrid visiting Mestalla next weekend, they really need a result from this match. They aren’t helped by a couple of suspensions which includes Edinson Cavani. While the Uruguayan hasn’t been great overall this term, he’s still their most capable striker and they have a problem in that department here with Hugo Duro an injury doubt while Marcos Andre will miss the rest of the season. 20 year old Diego Lopez could get an unexpected opportunity to make himself a hero if Duro doesn’t recover.

Fantasy Football: Who will be the starting goalkeepers in LaLiga 2023/24?
Score Prediction: Celta Vigo 0-0 Valencia
This is not likely to be a classic and it’s hard to see many goals. Celta have been firing blanks of late and look like a different team to the one that was flying in the early part of 2023. Valencia aren’t carrying much of a goal threat either with Samuel Lino perhaps their most likely source of a goal here but it wouldn’t be a surprise if it ended in stalemate.
