Celta Vigo vs Real Valladolid Preview
Real Valladolid travel to Balaidos on Sunday looking for another victory to lift them further clear of trouble. Celta Vigo will be the favourites though having enjoyed a productive winter so far.
They’ve had a relatively tricky run of fixtures but will be delighted with a return of 7 points from their last 4 games against Athletic Club, Real Betis, Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad. Those are all European contenders so Celta can take heart from the way they have competed against them with a late own goal ensuring they picked up a point at the Reale Arena last weekend.
That was despite Renato Tapia’s red card and the Peruvian will be out for 3 games now ensuring Fran Beltran should occupy the holding midfield role. Oscar Mingueza also misses out here through injury but otherwise, Carlos Carvalhal should name a similar team and he’ll believe that if his team can reproduce a similar level of performance, they should win this one.
Real Valladolid’s problem remains scoring goals. While Cyle Larin has been something of a revelation since his January move, you have to go way back to November 5th and Roque Mesa’s strike in the 2-1 win over Elche for the last time another Real Valladolid player scored in LaLiga. Larin has 3 to his name, but they’ll be looking for the likes of Gonzalo Plata and Darwin Machis to chip in with a few from the flanks.
Recent wins over Valencia and Real Sociedad, ensure they are outside the relegation zone and level on points with their opponents here. However both sides are just 2 points above the bottom three so this is still a pressure game and the losers will remain deep in the midst of a relegation battle.

Score Prediction: Celta Vigo 1-0 Real Valladolid
Overall, Celta have a bit more about them than Real Valladolid and their performance levels have been as good if not better than their results since the World Cup. With so little goal threat coming from Real Valladolid besides Larin, the hosts will fancy their chances of keeping a clean sheet and they should have just enough at the other end to claim the win.
