Cadiz vs Rayo Vallecano Preview

Cadiz and Rayo Vallecano meet in Andalusia this matchday with the hosts looking to build on a more impressive run of home results. Rayo Vallecano are pushing hard for Europe though and will fancy their chances of getting something from the game.

Even during the previous two years when they have managed to survive, the Nuevo Mirandilla has rarely been a fortress for Cadiz. They were yet to record a home win at the corresponding stage of last season but it suddenly feels a bit different with Cadiz unbeaten in 8 home league matches heading into this, winning the last two by 2-0 margins.

They were particularly impressive against Girona last time out and they do look a much more competitive outfit following a busy January which saw them add three strikers whilst strengthening in other areas. The goal threat has certainly increased and if they can retain the work ethic and solid foundations you associate with a Sergio team, they have every chance of staying afloat this term.

This is a tough match though with Rayo Vallecano expected to be at full strength once more. Andoni Iraola has been able to name consistent starting XI’s throughout the season and few players have let him down. Cadiz will have a very clear idea of what the visiting lineup will be as a result, but as many teams have found out, stopping Rayo and combatting their high-intensity approach is not easy.

The Madrid-based club are unbeaten in 4 league games coming into this with 2 wins and 2 draws. They sit in 6th place as a result and there really is no sign of the kind of collapse that saw them fall away badly in the second half of last season. With 34 points already on the board, they are already only a couple of wins away from the magic 40 point mark but they certainly have loftier ambitions this term than merely staying afloat.

Score Prediction: Cadiz 1-1 Rayo Vallecano

It’s tough to pick a winner here with Cadiz having discovered a new found resilience at home that is making it really tough for visiting teams to come here. Rayo are a good side though and only 5 sides have collected more away points than them in LaLiga 2022/23 so a draw could well be the outcome here.
